Baguio temporarily bans sale and consumption of alcohol

Indoor seating and customer capacity for enclosed or dine-in establishments and religious gatherings, also reduced

BAGUIO CITY — Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 ordered a total ban on the sale and service of liquor and other alcoholic products beginning Saturday, September 11 until September 19 due to the increasing number of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

The mayor also ordered the reduction of indoor seating and customer capacity for enclosed or dine-in establishments to 30 percent.

Moreover, he ordered to further limit religious gatherings to worship activities only and reduce the attendance to 20 percent of the venue capacity beginning September 11 until September 26.

The new restrictions were reached during last Wednesday’s consultation with the affected sectors during the mayor’s meeting with the Local COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), the Baguio Tourism Council (BTC), Department of Tourism Cordillera (DOT-CAR), Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB), and representatives of the affected sectors.

The mayor said that the increase in COVID-19 cases is projected to balloon further in the coming weeks .

“Based on this weeks’ data as supplied by the City Epidemiology and Surveilance Unit (CESU), our 7-day average for cases per day is now 165 and we expect this to further increase in the next two weeks,” he said.

The mayor also said that the number of barangays with new cases has risen to 115 or 89.15 percent in the last 14 days. — Aileen P. Refuerzo (PIO Baguio)
