City Government holds farewell ceremony to retire worn-out Philippine flags

BAGUIO CITY — The City Government of Baguio held a dignified retirement ceremony for worn out Philippine flags on Monday, May 29, 2023 at the Baguio City Hall grounds.

Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan, accompanied by members of the City Council and the Baguio Chapter of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines, led the ceremony in strict compliance with Section 14 of Republic Act 8491, also known as the “Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.”

According to the code, worn-out flags must not be discarded but instead be solemnly burned to prevent misuse or desecration.

Furthermore, the code emphasizes the prompt replacement of flags upon showing signs of wear and tear.
